Friends for Youth, Inc., the organizing partner for Bay Area Mentoring, is a nonprofit mentoring organization on the Peninsula that has been matching youth with adult mentors since 1979. We have been part of local mentoring coalitions and became, in 2001, the lead local partner for National Mentoring Month events as sponsored and supported by the Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR, and Corporation for National and Community Service. We created Bay Area Mentoring in 2005 as a way to connect youth mentoring programs across a larger area than just one or two counties who could benefit from combined efforts for visibility and awareness building. Our primary focus is helping programs recruit more safe and effective mentors. This is done through program listings on our site, National Mentoring Month official materials mailed out every fall, media outreach through the year but especially in January, and connection with TV/radio outlets to show PSAs on mentoring with the tag of www.bayareamentoring.org.

Being a member of Bay Area Mentoring boosts your organization's visibility to potential volunteers, the general public, and potential corporate supporters. By including your organization on this Web site, you can expand your organization's reach to recruit new mentors, share in networking opportunities with other mentoring organizations, and promote your organization through Bay Area Mentoring's marketing and public relations campaigns.
